One month before the move
- Collect supplies such as tape and/or boxes
- If needed: arrange travel arrangements (plane, hotel).
- Select a moving company.
- Organize rental needs
- Place legal, medical and insurance records in a special place
- Communicate your new address to the post office, friends and other people
- Modify your home address at the insurance, bank and finance companies. Also don’t forget your doctor, dentist and other service professional companies
- Get aware of your new neighborhood and find yourself a map of your new area
- Make and plan a budget for the move
Two weeks before the move
- Communicate the change of address to the energy and phone providers.
- Check if you need extra help
- Check travel and rental reservations
- Check if you need to close your old bank account. You might open a new bank account.
Packing tips
- Collect the following items:
- The correct sized boxes
- Bubble wrap
- Pens to mark or stickers
- Tape and/or old blankets to wrap items
- Packing material like tape, duct tape and scissors
- Secure your money, credit card and other financial items.
- Mark each box with your new final address.
- Keep an inventory of the content of each box
- Indicate fragile items clearly
- Pack a bag of personal items you'll need during the move and keep it in reach
- Pack a medical kit
- If you have children, prepare some activities to keep them occupied during the transport
- When moving with your children, please prepare some activities to keep them calm during the transportation
